L’autore e l’opera

Proseguendo con questa rubrica estemporanea sulle opere di cinologia considerate dei «classici» della letteratura di genere parlerò qui di «Anatomy of the Dog» di Malcom E. Miller, «IL» testo di anatomia del cane più autorevole di tutti i tempi; praticamente la “Bibbia” sulla struttura dei cani.

 

L’opera è uscita in quinta edizione nel 2019 a partire dalla sua prima data di pubblicazione nel 1964 (2ª ed. nel 1979, 3ª ed. nel 1994 e 4ª nel 2013). Nel frontespizio trovate tutte le copertine delle diverse edizioni. La schiera dei collaboratori nel tempo è costituita da una serie di nomi impressionanti per fama e competenza: Howard H. Evans, Alexander de Lahunta, George C. Christensen e John W. Hermanson, tutti luminari a livello internazionale nel loro campo. I disegni anatomici – di maestria impareggiabile – sono di Marion E. Newson e Pal Barrow.

Considerazioni finali

 

È un evento solo il fatto che dal Dopoguerra ad oggi la versione attualmente in commercio sia appena la quinta edizione. Ovviamente è un migliaio di pagine di alta tipografia, grafica impeccabile e solida rilegatura che non è molto economica, ma se proprio volete un affidabile e preciso testo di anatomia canina, prendete questo e non avrete bisogno di nient’altro.
